The Guardian’s Top 50 TV Dramas of All Time
The Guardian hat Buffy the Vampire Slayer auf der Liste der Top 50 TV Dramas of All Time auf Platz 22:
You can’t get sick of the tale of a SoCal blonde popsy who turns out to be her generation’s vampire slayer. Over seven series thick with classical allusions, pop culture references, wit, charm, martial arts sequences and achingly painful love stories, she grows into the role and gradually learns what it means to be the chosen one. She made old-fashioned ideals like honour and sacrifice relevant and accessible again, and even resurrected ancient feminist beliefs by fighting back against the demons that sought to subdue her. Instead of forever being rescued (or punished – for having sex or self-confidence) like the damsels in horror stories of yesteryear, she saved the world. A lot. Grief, love, betrayal, nobility, self-indulgence versus self-sacrifice – Buffy gave us all this to think about, and some excellent punning too.
Well done! 😀

bedazzled & flamboyant
The gays set the tone of the 2010 Grammys last night, when Lady Gaga, after being dumped into an incinerator for her “mind-controlling” performance of “Poker Face,” reemerged with the most fabulous pop princess of them all, Sir Elton John, for a duet so bedazzled and flamboyant, it brought Saturday drag nights to the center stage. Their pianos were conjoined, their faces were smudged with charcoal, and I nearly peed myself as they sang “Speechless” and “Your Song.” Perhaps her vast popularity with the gays extended to the Grammy nominating committee and scored her the first two awards of her career.

Prop 8 Trial

Spaß in Tüten

You know how it is. You’re enjoying yourself, kicking back and relaxing at the pub or maybe at the library; or maybe you’re in class or just casually surfing the internet, indulging in a little conversation. […]
Yet all of a sudden something happens to put a dampener on your sharing of your enviable intellect and incomparable capacity to fully perceive and understand All Things. It’s someone who belongs to the group of people you’re discussing and they’re Not Very Happy with you. Apparently, they claim, you’ve got it all wrong and they’re offended about that. They might be a person of colour, or a queer person. Maybe they’re a woman, or a person with disability. They could even be a trans person or a sex worker. The point is they’re trying to tell you they know better than you about their issues and you know that’s just plain wrong. How could you be wrong?
Don’t worry though! There IS something you can do to nip this potentially awkward and embarrassing situation in the bud. By simply derailing the conversation, dismissing their opinion as false and ridiculing their experience you can be sure that they continue to be marginalised and unheard and you can continue to look like the expert you know you really are, deep down inside!
CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE PRIVILEGE!
[…]
The best part is, you don’t even have to be a white, heterosexual, cisgendered, cissexual, upper-class male to enjoy the full benefits of derailing conversation! Nope, you can utilise the lesser-recognised tactic of Horizontal Hostility to make sure that, despite being a member of a Marginalised Groupâ„¢ yourself, you can exercise a privilege another Marginalised Groupâ„¢ doesn’t have in order not to heed their experience!
[…]
Derailing for Dummies. Großartig. Komplett lesen, bitte.
